About the association

OOIDA was formed in 1973 and is headquartered in Grain Valley, Missouri. Its work focuses on fair treatment of truckers, highway safety and a workable business environment for professional drivers. The association participates in transportation policy, government rulemaking and industry forums.

Company drivers, owner-operators and small-fleet owners can request information about membership. Some resources are publicly available while member services, discounts and account functions require active membership or enrollment in a particular program. Check current dues, eligibility and service charges directly with OOIDA.

Business assistance and trucking operations

The Business Assistance Unit helps members with federal-regulation questions, lease and broker-carrier agreement reviews, carrier complaints, warranty and repair issues, operating-cost calculations and certain claims processes. Call 816-229-5791 and ask for Business Assistance so the question reaches the right team.

OOIDA also offers assistance with operating authority, permits and licensing, fuel-and-mileage tax services and business compliance records. Compliance Connection supports online management of driver qualification files, maintenance files and drug-and-alcohol testing records. Ask which tasks are included in a service and which require separate fees or filings.

Useful planning tools include a fuel surcharge calculator, cost-per-mile resources and a lease-purchase calculator. Drivers considering their first truck or their own authority can use these resources to prepare questions about expenses, agreements and business responsibilities.

Drug-and-alcohol testing program

OOIDA’s consortium provides small-business truckers with testing-program support, collection-site access, random selection, recordkeeping resources and educational materials. Additional testing categories can have separate charges. The official testing page links program guidelines and federal resources.

Program questions and regular-hours post-accident coordination: 816-229-5791, Monday–Friday, 7:30 a.m.–5:30 p.m. Central.
After-hours, weekend or holiday post-accident coordination: eScreen 800-881-0722; follow the prompts for Post-Accident Testing, as instructed on OOIDA’s program page.

Use your employer’s testing procedures and the current program instructions for a time-sensitive event. The general association contact form is not the published after-hours testing channel.

Insurance, discounts and member benefits

OOIDA’s site links commercial truck insurance and separate life, health and occupational-accident products. Coverage eligibility, limits, exclusions and premiums depend on the product and policy. Use the official insurance channel for a quote, policy question or certificate rather than treating a membership overview as an insurance contract.

Members can also review provider discounts and rebates, member perks, news and account-renewal resources. Confirm the current offer details with the participating provider. Land Line Media and the Trucking with OOIDA podcast offer association-linked trucking news and commentary.

OOIDA Foundation: research and education

The OOIDA Foundation is the association’s nonprofit research and education affiliate, incorporated in 1991. It examines economic and safety issues from the professional driver’s perspective. The official Foundation page links research and surveys, trucking market updates, ELD resources, Foundation Dispatch and the Mary Johnston Scholarship Program.

Its educational materials can help drivers understand the business side of trucking and compare claims with documented research. Foundation Dispatch includes Trucker Success and Trucker Reality bulletins. The online education directory has classes for professional drivers and small-business operators; review the current class description and access terms.

For a Foundation-specific inquiry, choose the appropriate department on OOIDA’s contact form or call headquarters and request the Foundation. Use the official Foundation page for current scholarship eligibility and application requirements.
