In the EU and UK Truckers have tachograph in the truck which are digital and the police can download the driving log. You have to stop after 4 hours for a rest period and after 8 hours for 8 hour rest. Heavy fines if you are caught. But at least the autobahn truck stops have free ablutions facilities with showers etc, and often at fuel stops so you can get food as well. Most truckers also have microwaves, etc in the cab. Sleeping compartments can be small because of the restrictions in total vehicle length. But bosses know that it is illegal to drive for too long and they can get fined as well.and if you are stuck in road traffic tough the tachograph is still running 24/7 so shows the engine is running which you need to keep the brakes working. Truckers are the kings and Queens of the road.
