Just put it in reverse and back thru the scale. That avoids them.

I mostly drive at night due to delivery schedules. And yes. The majority of dot scales are closed after 9pm. But the cops watch us closer. So it only helps if you are intentionally over weight. Which i must legally say I do not endorse.

Less scales open at night but they will still randomly open them certain times of year so you never know if it’s open or not

Well that's just stupid that he's worried about having to go into the weigh station. If his weights are good (which he should've checked after he picked up the load), everything is good on the truck (which he should've checked in his PTI), and he's not cheating on his logs then there's nothing to worry about.
