Texas Trucker Refused to Pay Indiana Toll — Found With Marijuana and Fake Urine in Cab After Giving Troopers False ID and Resisting Arrest

PORTAGE, INDIANA — A Houston truck driver who refused to pay a toll on the Indiana Toll Road ended up facing a string of criminal charges after giving a false identity to a trooper, resisting arrest when officers tried to take her into custody, and being found with marijuana and synthetic urine in her cab.

Indiana State Police said a trooper responded shortly before 11 a.m. Tuesday to the Indiana Toll Road barrier plaza in Portage after a report of a driver refusing to pay the toll. While attempting to gather information, the trooper discovered the driver had provided a false identity. When he attempted to take her into custody, she resisted.

“When the trooper discovered he had been given false identifying information he attempted to take Martin into custody and she began to resist arrest,” ISP said. “Several other troopers arrived and Martin was taken into custody without injury.”

A search of the truck turned up suspected marijuana and a bottle of synthetic urine.

The driver, identified as Shalaia Martin, 38, of Houston, was transported to the Porter County Jail. She was cited for the unpaid toll and faces charges of false informing, resisting law enforcement, possession of synthetic urine, and possession of marijuana.
