Should be off ,so you don't slow down as often and use as much fuel
Leave it on unless your in the snow and ice. Stand in it hand!!! 😂😂
I run the same way. its just incase I need to slow fast I don't have to turn it on I can just steer and it the brakes
NAW MAN YOU GOOD!! YOU AIN'T DOING IT WRONG,,YOUR DOING IT ALL 💯 RIGHT!! KEEP ON TRUCKING AND USING THE JAKES,,SAVING YOUR BRAKES ,HUBS AND DOING TRUCK THE WAY IT'S SUPPOSED TO DO!! NOT ONLY THAT WHO IS TELLING YOU YOUR DOING IT WRONG!! IF THEY DON'T DRIVE THEY DON'T KNOW ANYTHING ABOUT IT!!! ❤😊
Only time I wouldn't leave it on is slippery conditions
Just tell them "you are the one that's fucking this cat" and you will let them know when she has kittens 🙂
No you’re not doing it wrong! I been driving for over 20+ yrs. Just make sure it is on the lowest setting so it doesn’t just flat out stop you. You will only do that just once in your life 😂 it’s a game changer really quick!
I do the same training I have to explain this too BIG FOOTS who will cause a smoking fire and make my dang brake drums wear out and it doesn't take long to notice the difference. I don't brake in my car hard.
I heard just leave it on, on raining 🌧 day
It's harmless It's your choice
As a retired trucker, please don’t use the JB in small towns/villages. Ty
What do you do about going into towns that have posted signs saying No Jack Breaks?
I’ve only been doing it now 10 years I’ve never turned it off just got to have some throttle control
lol
Your doing it right won't hurt a thing
If your a company driver go ask someone that’s in charge of the trucks for the company see what they say it’s there truck
Folks when you get real good with your job of driving the truck you will be able to use the Jake brake in the rain and on the ice and snow. It's usually a 3 speed Jake brake and it works great on the second setting. For you rookies you don't need to try this but for us veterans who have spent a lifetime driving the roads in every kind of condition its a normal day using the Jake brake. I never drove automatic trucks so I can't tell you anything about it.
It does cause engine component wear, brakes are cheaper than engine repair. Only use engine brake when necessary.
I was told to leave it on all the time
On is fine😎
I have no idea what you are talking about.
The old school frame of mind was that Jake brakes or compression brakes of the time, would cause a spin out when raining or on exit ramps. That’s how I was taught 20 years ago. It’s my understanding that the newer engines use magnetic resistance systems that slow the engine down and don’t have as much of a risk. Not sure how true it is, but they do operate differently than the days before EGR & DPF.
Depending on where your driving there are restrictions on jake brakes. I have seen signs for it in some inner-city areas and for some farm areas. I don't know if its enforceable but the signs are around.
It depends which lorry you operating
Nothing wrong with it but brakes are cheaper than engines when maintenance time comes .
Bs
Its america do what you want
Its the a-holes who don't have mufflers on jake and they run on flat roads in the city at 3am that piss off everyone.
Naw man, you’re correct.
If you're driving an automatic you probably don't know some tractors go in into E mode and coast when letting off the gas, having always on Jake brake this mode won't engage.
In the old days when trucks had manual transmissions and shifting gears by hand was a thing, Jake's during upshifting works. Downshifting Jake's hurt. Jake's full time hurt fuel mileage also . Turn them off on flats . Noise pollution is also a factor.
It will not hurt the engine, it only activates when you let off the accelerator pedal. Govern at a lower speed and rpm .
I leave mine on all the time. Doesn’t hurt anything.
U can run with your Jake brakes on all the time I do it all the time cause regardless if ur in mountains or flats freeway or city if all the sudden there is an accident infront of you u will have it on to help u slow to miss accident if u have it off u will try to turn it on to help u stop and it will put u at higher risk so leave it on and keep rolling the person that told u that u we’re doing it wrong probably worked at swift
I leave mine on all the time even whenever you aren't suppose to.
Weight should slow you down
Idiot
I've been driving a semi for 35 years and always run with my Jake break on. You're doing it right, and saving your shoes or pads👊👍 keep on trucking 🚛
