It’s not about the speed in those situations, it’s about the following distance. The faster you go the more distance you should have; a semi (assuming it could reach such speeds) going 120mph can still stop, it just takes a long time. Going the speed limit and being 1-2 car lengths closer would’ve had the same or worse results.
