About This Video

Red lights are a serious part of operating on public roads. For truck drivers, paying attention to traffic signals and being prepared to stop are basic parts of safe driving. A red signal is not something to treat casually, especially when operating a large vehicle around other road users.

Key Takeaways

  • Pay attention to traffic signals.
  • Be prepared to stop at red lights.

Maybe he’s color blind and he thinks it’s a grey light not a red light? Just think about it huh could be. Or he’s just a moron you never know and maybe he thinks rule are sissies.

    Just saying.

Not all truck drivers are considerate or intelligent. Remember DOT had to close license mills. Many drivers cant even read

Nobody gets thrown around! I worked on the dock for years and became supervisor. Its because they don't want anyone dragged of the dock. I don't know how many times I've seen people halfway out the trailer and fall to the concrete yard, just because a lazy truck driver didn't want to make sure he was done being loaded or unloaded. Ive seen people get seriously hurt, and the only thing they could say was, "there goes my safety bonus. 😡

Unless there is a sign somewhere saying that they shouldn't be hitching to the red lights, there's no justification in firing them

As a trainer, i made my mistake, and worked that into the curriculum of the entire company.
It happened over two decades ago, and i still feel bad about it.

Now, on the other side of that, i had a method of pushing a trailer against a dick so hard that the couldn't get the dock plate up.
When they askedd me to pull up the trailer a bit, i offered to unhook.
They said no way will you unhook, we will just have you to re-press the trailer when we get the plate up, and you stay hooked.
I was the only tractor on a line of trailers…

15 years ago I worked as loader at FedEx in Toledo and they could not hook to a trailer unless the verified that the was green, the trailer door was closed and the dock door was closed. And he's right that was afiring offense.

It's not that throws the people around inside it's the fact that it makes packages drop and there are people inside

Most of the times we slide our tandem to the loading dock and put a wheel block so it won’t move

These lights aren't unique to FedEx, every terminal uses them. If you don't understand red means stop or danger that's not the company's fault. It means men are working and still loading the trailer. Pretty simple stuff.

Rules are rules. Just be sure everyone is aware. Shouldn’t have to babysit

i understand the policy, however you can’t expect everybody to know it so if you don’t tell anybody, you’re setting somebody up for a wrongful termination and people should start suing for such it needs to be trained that needs to be taught if you’re gonna have a no tolerance policy you better start teaching it otherwise in my mind is wrongful termination, even though the policy is done for safety purposes again nothing wrong with the policy, but if you don’t train the policy, how is a person supposed to know?
