Owner-Operator Startup & Business Help: A Company Driver’s Transition Guide

Starting as an Owner-Operator: Companies & Services That Can Help

Moving from a company-driving job to running a truck involves several separate decisions. These guides explain who can help with business planning, authority and permits, accounting, financing, back-office systems and freight tools—and what each service does not replace.

Start with the operating model

1. Decide how you’ll operate. Under your own authority, you run your own carrier business and arrange the filings, insurance, compliance and customers. Leasing onto an established carrier can provide access to its authority and freight process, but read the lease carefully and compare deductions, control, settlement timing, escrow and equipment terms. These are different business arrangements.
2. Build the numbers before resigning. Estimate truck payment or lease, insurance, fuel, maintenance and tire reserve, permits, taxes, factoring/dispatch fees, unpaid downtime and personal expenses. Use CompanyDriver’s cost-per-mile calculator and break-even load calculator if available. Get written truck and insurance quotes before giving up company-driver income.
3. Match the help to the path. Ask each service what it handles, which government fees are extra, who signs or submits each filing, what ongoing renewals are included, how support works and what the total cost is. A paperwork company does not automatically supply financing, insurance, trucks or loads.
4. Put the operation in order before hauling. Confirm the authority/lease arrangement, truck condition and insurance, required registrations and permits, safety records, tax calendar, invoice process and cash plan. Follow applicable FMCSA and state requirements; do not assume a load board signup alone authorizes a carrier to haul.

Contact details and how to use these profiles

Each provider guide has its own overview, stated services, limits, official links and the public phone, email, department or named contact available from the company’s own materials. If a provider did not publish a person or direct phone, the guide says so rather than guessing. Contact details can change, so verify them with the company before sending documents or money.

CompanyDriver.TV does not endorse or guarantee a company, loan, lease, load or service. Compare alternatives, check contracts, keep your own records and confirm filings directly with the responsible agency or carrier.
